Biography
Xin Lie is the sonic alias of Diannov Pamungkas, an experimental DJ and producer from Bandung. He began his journey in the hardcore punk scene before diving into underground electronic music through the DJ collective C*SSS, where he hosted broadcasts and late-night sessions. Raised on a blend of hardcore punk, Xin Lie channels that energy into fractured rhythms and industrial textures.
His work is deeply influenced by the traditional Sundanese performance art Reak/Kuda Renggong—a surreal procession of masked dancers and hypnotic percussion. This cultural memory led him to document and manipulate the raw sounds of the dogdog, a long, tubular drum central to the ritual. These recordings became the blueprint for his unique percussive language—one that collides with the brutalist machinery of club culture, noise, and fractured ambient.
Xin Lie's DJ sets reflect this hybrid approach: ritualistic and immersive, with tribal percussion, distorted textures, and industrial pulses flowing seamlessly into each other. Built more like sound journeys than club conventions, they invite both introspection and movement, bridging ancient sonic memory with experimental intensity.
Now active across Southeast Asia and beyond, Xin Lie's sets and compositions blur the sacred and the synthetic, evoking the feeling of a haunted procession through collapsing sound systems.
In 2025, he released his debut album via Dance Data (New York), distributed on vinyl through One Eye Witness, cementing his place in the global experimental and noise community.
